Not an Island

Our client’s immediate request was ‘not an Island’. Followed by the words high contemporary, restful light, and spacious. A kitchen that blends with the breathtaking sea views of their beachfront holiday home.

Fyfe’s Kira Gray responded by designing a classic ‘U-shaped’ kitchen boasting plenty of bench space and storage options. Placed between the lounge and dining room, the kitchen was built to accommodate a possible mix of families and friends using the space at one time.

The design featured a set of raised cupboards in washed ash veneer placed on each end. It doubled as a leaner as the clients did not want seating. These cupboards grounded the kitchen and defined its space. And to reduce its heavy appearance, the cupboards were offset with cantilevered cabinetry.

Tall cupboards and an array of drawers and pull-outs extend the kitchen’s storage options. Negative detailing, waterfall ends, high aluminium toe kicks, along with Caesar Stone benchtops and upstands gave the room its high contemporary look. A simplistic design, light and bright, unobtrusive of the breathtaking views surrounding the kitchen.
